- PhD student Peggy Altman was awarded a NGWREF Farvolden Award at the Spring 2011 National Groundwater Summit held in Baltimore Maryland. Peggy's presentation was titled "Biologically Enhanced Tetrachloroethene DNAPL Dissolution in an Experimental Fracture Network". The award is based on three criteria: the quality of the presentation, content (including contribution to groundwater science, engineering, management, or policy), and demonstrated insight on the topic.
- ESE Professor Dr Tissa Illangasekare has been awarded the 2011 Borland Lectureship. The Borland Lectureship in Hydrology honors an outstanding individual in recognition of his/her contributions to the field of hydrologic science at the Colorado State University's Hydrology Days. The 2011 edition of Hydrology Days will be held at Colorado State University during March 21 - March 23, 2011.
- HSE PROFESSOR AWARDED NSF CAREER AWARD
GOLDEN, Colo., Feb. 9, 2011 – Jonathan O. (Josh) Sharp, assistant professor of Environmental Science and Engineering at Colorado School of Mines, has received a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award for his research “Cleaner Water Through Microbial Stress: An Integrated Research and Education Plan.”
Sharp’s research focuses on how biological processes can impact water quality and how to use microbes to clean contaminated sediments and water supplies (bioremediation).
The NSF CAREER award is the most prestigious award in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.
